What your overview should say

An overview names the main trends or differences in one or two sentences, without numbers. These are the features a strong answer picks out:

  1. 1Overall, each region specialised in a different crop: wheat in the North, cotton in the South and a mixed pattern in the Central region.
  2. 2Wheat made up 60% of the North's crops but just 5% of the South's, while cotton accounted for 55% of the South and none of the North.
  3. 3The Central region was the most diverse, with vegetables the largest category at 30% and fruit at 20%.

The pie charts compare the types of crop grown in three regions of one country: the North, the Centre and the South.

Overall, each region specialised in a different crop. Wheat dominated the North, cotton the South, and the Centre had the most varied output, with vegetables as its largest category.

In the North wheat accounted for 60% of production, followed by other crops at 20%, vegetables at 12% and fruit at 8%. Cotton was not grown at all. The South showed an almost opposite pattern. Cotton made up 55% of crops, while wheat accounted for only 5%, and the remaining crops were other crops at 20%, vegetables at 10% and fruit at 10%.

The Central region was the most balanced. Vegetables were the largest category, at 30%, followed by wheat at 25% and fruit at 20%. Cotton represented 15% of production, and other crops 10%.

Fruit was therefore most important in the Centre, where its share was double that of the South and well over double that of the North. Vegetables were also three times as important in the Centre as in the South.
