Frequently asked questions

Are these official IELTS tools?

No. GoPrep is independent from the organisations that run IELTS. The calculators use the conversion tables and rounding rules IELTS publishes, and every converter number shows its source. Your official score only comes from an IELTS test centre.

Do I need an account?

No. Every tool works straight away, on your phone or computer, with no sign-up and no email. What you write in the practice boxes stays in your browser.

How accurate is the band score calculator?

The overall band is exact: it is the average of your four skill bands, rounded the way IELTS rounds it. The Listening and Reading tables are indicative, because the cut-offs shift slightly from test to test. Writing and Speaking results are estimates from the criteria you choose.

Are the Speaking and Writing topics real exam questions?

They are topics candidates often report from recent tests, written in our own words. IELTS does not publish its questions, so use these to practice on the kinds of topics that come up.

How do I convert IELTS to TOEFL, PTE or Duolingo?

Open the score converter, pick a test and a score, and you see every equivalent at once. Each number comes from the official concordance tables published by ETS, Pearson, Duolingo and IELTS, with the source under it.

What IELTS score do universities ask for?

Most ask for an overall 6.0 to 7.0, often with a minimum in each skill. Search for your university in the requirements tool to see its exact numbers and a link to its own page.
