The line graph shows the average monthly rainfall, in millimetres, in the coastal, highland and desert regions of one country, with figures for six months of the year.
Overall, the coastal and highland regions have opposite seasonal patterns, whereas the desert region receives very little rain at any time. Coastal areas are wettest in winter, but the highlands are wettest in summer.
Rainfall on the coast was highest at the start and end of the year, at 110 mm in January and 120 mm in November. It then dropped from 90 mm in March to 60 mm in May and reached its lowest point of 20 mm in July, before recovering to 50 mm in September.
The highlands showed the reverse trend. Rainfall there was just 60 mm in January and rose to 70 mm in March and 95 mm in May. It peaked at 130 mm in July, six and a half times the coastal figure for that month. It then fell back to 100 mm in September and 70 mm in November.
The desert was extremely dry throughout, with monthly totals ranging only from 3 mm in July to 12 mm in March.
