The pie charts compare how teenagers divide their waking hours between six activities on a weekday and at the weekend.
Overall, school dominates the weekday, whereas the weekend is mostly spent socialising and using screens. Teenagers also play far more sport at the weekend.
On a weekday school takes up the biggest proportion of time, at 40%, followed by screens with 18% and socialising with 16%. Study occupies 14% of waking hours, and sport and chores each account for only 6%.
At the weekend, school disappears entirely, and the time it occupied is spread across the other activities. Socialising becomes the largest category, at 40%, up from 16% on a weekday, which is two and a half times as much. Time spent on screens rises from 18% to 30%, so these two activities together account for 70% of waking hours.
Sport more than doubles, from 6% to 14%, and study falls from 14% to 8%. Chores increase slightly from 6% to 8%. Study and chores therefore receive the same share of time at the weekend.
