I would like to talk about a suit jacket that I borrowed from my older cousin, Farhod, last year. I needed it for a job interview, and I did not own anything formal enough.
The interview was for an internship at a bank, and it had been arranged at short notice, only three days before the date. I looked in my wardrobe and realised that I only had casual clothes, and buying a good suit would have cost more than I could afford. I mentioned the problem to my mother, and she suggested asking Farhod, who works in an office and has several suits. I called him, and he immediately said that I could come over and try one. He was slightly taller than me, but a navy jacket fitted well enough, and he even gave me a tie and a pair of cufflinks. I returned everything, cleaned and ironed, two days after the interview.
I felt a mixture of gratitude and slight embarrassment. I was very thankful because he saved me from a stressful situation, and I felt more confident wearing a proper jacket. At the same time, I was worried about damaging it, so I was extra careful, and I did not even eat lunch before the interview in case I spilled something. In the end, I got the internship, and I took Farhod out for dinner as a thank-you. The experience taught me that it is fine to ask for help when you need it. Since then, I have lent my own things to friends more readily, because I know how valuable it can be.
