The bar chart compares the amount of milk, cheese and butter eaten per person per year, in kilograms, in four countries.
Overall, milk was consumed in far larger quantities than cheese or butter in every country, and each country had its own distinct pattern. Uzbekistan consumed the most milk, while France was the biggest eater of cheese and butter.
Milk consumption was highest in Uzbekistan, at 95 kg per person, followed by the USA with 72 kg and France with 56 kg. Japan had the lowest figure, at 31 kg, which was about a third of the Uzbek level.
Cheese consumption was low in all four countries. The French ate the most, at 27 kg, and Americans consumed 17 kg. In contrast, the Japanese ate only 3 kg and Uzbeks just 2 kg, making cheese a very minor part of their diets.
Butter was the least consumed product overall. France again led, with 8 kg per person, followed by Uzbekistan at 4 kg. The USA recorded only 2 kg, and Japan the lowest figure of all, at just 0.6 kg, which was less than one-tenth of the French amount.
