Dear Nadia,

It was great to hear that you're thinking about studying abroad! I did exactly that two years ago, so I'm really happy to share what I learned.

I went to Canada to do a master's in computer science, and it was the best decision of my life. I made friends from all over the world, and my English improved much faster than it ever did at home.

As for choosing a course, my main advice is to look carefully at the content, not just the university's famous name. Find out about work placements, and speak to former students if you can.

I should warn you that it's not always easy. I was terribly homesick during the first months, and the cost of living was higher than I expected, so I had to take a part-time job.

But don't let that put you off. Write back if you want any help with applications, and I'll gladly read your essays.

Best wishes,
Aidar
