Parents are also an important influence, as children learn attitudes to money at home. These are fair points, but they do not weaken the case. Financial education could replace less useful content, specialists or well-prepared materials could support teachers, and lessons at school would complement, not replace, what families teach. Practical activities, such as running a small class business or managing a pretend budget, would make the subject engaging. Several countries that have tried this approach report that pupils become more careful consumers, which benefits their families too.

In conclusion, financial education prepares young people for adult life and protects them from costly mistakes. I firmly believe schools should include it in their programmes.
