Dear Emma,
How are you? I hope everything's good with you. I've had a rough few weeks, and I'd really like your advice, because I don't know who else to ask.
You know that I've been sharing a flat with Jess since September. At first, everything was fine, but recently she's become quite difficult. She often comes home very late and plays loud music, even on weeknights. She leaves her stuff all over the living room. Worst of all, she's started borrowing my things without asking.
I've tried to be patient. Twice I've mentioned the noise, and each time she apologised, but nothing changed. I also left a polite note about the cleaning, and she ignored it. I don't want to start a fight, because we share friends.
What would you do in my position? Should I talk to her again, or ask my landlord to step in? I'm even thinking of looking for another flat, but that feels like running away.
Please write soon.
Love,
Kate
