Which tables are current (October 2026)
- TOEFL iBT, new scale. Since 21 January 2026, TOEFL reports a 1–6 band score. Score reports also print a comparable 0–120 total until January 2028.
- TOEFL iBT, 0–120. This column comes from the April 2025 study by ETS and all three IELTS partners. It replaces ETS's 2010 table, which many sites still copy.
- Duolingo. The overall table dates from 2022. Duolingo tested it again in October 2025 and kept it unchanged.
- PTE Academic. Pearson updated its table in July 2025 for the current PTE. The IELTS partners publish a different table from 2021. We show Pearson's first, with the IELTS partners' figure beside it.
- CEFR. IELTS covers B1 to C2. Bands 5.0, 6.5 and 8.0 sit on the border between two levels.
Your converted score is not an official score
Universities, employers and visa offices set their own minimum for each test. When one names a TOEFL, PTE or Duolingo score, that score is the one you need.

Frequently asked questions
What is IELTS 7.5 in TOEFL?
IELTS 7.5 equals TOEFL iBT 5.5 on the new 1–6 scale and 100–107 on the old 0–120 scale. Sources: ETS (2026) and the ETS and IELTS study (April 2025).
What is 100 TOEFL in IELTS?
A TOEFL iBT total of 100 on the 0–120 scale equals IELTS 7.5: that band covers 100–107. On the new 1–6 scale, a total of 100 corresponds to band 5.0.
What is 120 Duolingo in IELTS?
Duolingo 120 equals IELTS 6.5. Duolingo's own table puts scores of 120 and 125 at band 6.5.
Is 63 PTE 7 or 6.5 in IELTS?
It depends on whose table you read. Pearson's July 2025 table puts PTE 63–70 at IELTS 7.0. The IELTS partners' table links band 7.0 to PTE 66.3, so 63 reads as 6.5 there.
If an institution names a PTE minimum, use that number. If it only names an IELTS band, ask which table it follows.
Is IELTS 7.5 C1 or C2?
C1. IELTS places bands 7.0 to 8.0 at C1 and 8.5 to 9.0 at C2. Band 8.0 is on the C1/C2 border.
Is 4.5 a good TOEFL score?
On the new 1–6 scale, 4.5 is a solid B2 result. It matches IELTS 6.5, the band many universities ask for, and 86–94 on the old 0–120 scale.
Are these conversions official?
Each test owner's table is official for its own pair, and every number from one shows the owner and the date. Nobody publishes some pairs, such as TOEFL to Duolingo. For those we go through IELTS: your score becomes an IELTS band, and that band becomes the other test's score. Those numbers are marked Estimate via IELTS. Universities and visa offices set their own rules for each test.
